Yes and No. Yes, we will study the Bible but no, this is not a listen & leave group. The goal is edification (a la Ephesians 4:29), not pontification. You'll be surprised how much insight comes from others and no one person is allowed to dominate the discussion.
May you experience wonder and awe of the Scriptures as you look deeply into God's word and become blessed by doing it (James 1:25).
The flow and S5 format:
Smoke | Light 'em if you got 'em
Scripture | Passage from Scripture
Silence | No speaking, just silence for 10m as you write, meditate, pray, ponder on the passage
Speak | What resonated with you the most from the passage
Savor | Closing question, What are you savoring or will you be saving this week?
We start promptly at 7pm and end promptly at 8:30pm. You are welcome to stay as long as you like afterwards and injoy more smokes from the hosting venue.
Yes and No. Yes, everyone is asked to purchase at least one cigar from the venue. No, you do not have to smoke it. If you don't smoke, give your stick to the leader who is hosting!
Absolutely. Please share link below and/or this page. Everyone is asked to sign up. Seating is limited.
Yessiree. We honor your time. We start promptly at 7pm and will conclude at 8:30pm or sooner. All are welcome to stay, smoke, and savor the evening after.
Yes. No professional "pastors", those who earn their primary income from a religious institution are not allowed to lead an S5 group.
Why? First, the word "pastor" is not a biblical word. See Ephesians 4:11, the correct term would be shepherd. Jesus Christ is the Sheperd. Most "pastors" when asked, "What is the church of Jesus Christ?" They responded by describing their building. This is not correct. The church is the living body of Christ (see Acts 2:42).
Professional "pastors" can attend, but they are not allowed to lead an S5 group in the USA.
PS Jim Lane founded New Canaan Society when he was with Goldman Sach's. Jim's DNA and his Goldman Sachs standards and style imbue Todd as well. Ask Jim or Todd about a "Wall Street Breakfast". You may want to join in. Jim created NCS with similar foundational tenets, as well as the cigars. Thank you Jim for your influence, friendship and counsel over the years.
